Crazy Whacky

go to dailymakeover.com to make yourself look like a nut. Needless to say Vincent really hates it and doesn't like me as a blonde:( I originally posted it but he made me take it down, now thats true love. Sometimes the truth hurts, I wasnt meant to be blonde.

Home School Day 1

Well, we can't keep them ignorant forever, though knowing us that may still be our end result!

Today was day one. Catholic Heritage Curricula is what we are using for preschool. Love it! We're pretty laid back about it as they are still young. I dont think I went to school until I was 6!

We will take it one year at a time and see what happens, we may do schooling in a classroom environment for grade school, but when they are this young we feel its really nice to be close to home.

So we thought we would load some cool pic's from today. We started with coloring the Theme of the month "I am happy when I obey" otherwise known as "I stomp and cry if Im told to obey."

No really, we are pretty happy with the lack of consternation the boys give us so far. They are busy boys but generally dont try to go against our wishes. Im sure we will have our day. Now Therese on the other hand...whew!
After coloring, a surprise box came in the mail for writer (Eileen) as its my 33rd tommorrow. Darling Vincent bought me some wireless speakers so I can finally get some decent radio in our apartment - Im so pumped to get 1260 am!!! Catholic Radio rocks!

The surprise box became the real excitement of the school day as we began to color all over it and the boys called themselves "Akitects" like Uncle Shaun, while they attempted to deconstruct and reconstruct their own private dwelling from a very small box. It had doors and windows and some stars, oh and of course a chimney that smokes!

After destroying the box and one another, I tried to be creative about how to continue the school day, while keeping any lessons light. We decided to do cooking 101 and together we made Pizza. I so have to get over myself. I have to just let the poor things be kids, and boys to boot. I'm way to controlling. God give me humility, but not all at once ok:) During the Pizza making, all that I said was "No dont touch that, ahh, James, ah er... Oh just go play blocks, Mommy will call you when its topping time." Terrible.

Finally, a sport they can enjoy, cheese and pepperoni placements!

After pizza making, I, so proud of myself and thinking the day was awesome (Thanks to Jenny's encouragement) sat down to tea to relax. Not for long. I had given James a long silicone spoon with a metal end to play with. How harmless eh? James threw it in the air, it hit Jesus on the cross and then flung into James eye.

James now has a terrible cut right along the wrinkle line of fragile skin right under the eye. It is just black and puffy. I almost posted it but thought it better to leave you only with these fun photos:)

I won't tease Monica too much, OK I will, she sat the kids this afternoon (sweet, I went for a pedi) but during their walk back from the local bridge, an already wounded James stumbled down a long paved hill, maybe he rolled like a snowball with a few good whacks along the way, I dont know. Kids tend to roll fast when coming down steep hills. I like to bring painful memories up when my sweet sister inlaw is involved, love to rattle her chain, she is pretty tough:) I like to have good razing material for ya sweets! Anyhow, James is officially beaten up!

So needless to say, day 1 of school, good for me, bad for kids. Not so great for Aunty M, but she will get over it:) Love to her and thanks for letting me have clean feet! She also knows how to season a mean burger, man she's one heck of a season queen!

Now off to birthday dreams. Im very excited, my Dad is coming tommorrow for a week from Canada. Mom sadly has to stay home and keep working:( Dad will be 65 on Friday, yeah!!!

Apartment Drama

We woke at 3 a.m. to the sounds of shreaks increasing and turning into an occasional blood curdling scream. I held Therese close while Vincent went to peak through blinds to see what the noise was about. Our bedroom windows back onto a trail. I heard one more scream that was definetly not someone joking around. Instantly my heart leaped into my throat and all I could think was that someone was being seriously hurt on the trail. I began praying intensely.

I went to the kitchen and said to Vincent, let's not mess around, call 911 immediatly. He turned to me and said "its ----" the neighbor's 7 yr old daughter outside. I was slighly relieved to discover that she was the source of the screaming, because no one was hurting her, at least it wasn't what I originally thought, a rape or murder on the trail.

Yet at the same time, Im horrified to think this precious little girl would be so terrified as to scream for many minutes at 3 a.m. outside of her house.

I ran to her, "Baby what's wrong where is Mommy? Shh, shh, aunty E is here, you're ok with me, I wont let anything happen..."

Meanwhile Im trying to piece toegther what happened.

Her Mom had a serious life threatening fall in December. She became confused on her medicine and fell from a 3rd story balcony railing at our place, trying to save a squirrel from a tree. I could only imagine what had happened now.

---- said, "do you know where my mommy is? I woke up and she was gone, she left her purse and her phone" Great I am thinking. The little girl was beyone terrified. She even pointed to the spare room with her finger shaking saying "I think she is in there but not moving" "Ahhh I thought" horror movie recap! No. No mom in there.

The dog was also gone. Ok simple explanation, neighbor who likes to smoke has woken at 3 to walk dog. But wait, daughter screaming for 5 minutes...Mom wouldn't hear? This could be bad... Where is Mom and I pray she is OK. I start to pray again sincere prayers for help.

Other neighbors came running and I quickly introduced the scenario and put them to work at walkng the grounds looking for the missing Mom/dog walker, possible drowing/squirrel victim.
Within what seemed like an eternity but what was probably only minutes, I hear Mom walking back meeting up with the other neighbors who explained what was going on. Mom came back angry with daughter for screaming and waking up neighbors. "I was walking the dog, geesh!"

Today we are tired. Its hard to sleep after an adrenaline rush. I won't say more.

We just be down home cooks here y'all

Yeah it aint pretty, but boy is it good. This is one of "Our Happy Clan's" favorite's. Eileen's mom found this recipe for "Barbara's peachy chicken" about 5 yrs ago and we have used it ever since with a few of our own touches!

We always serve this with an Orange Viniagrette dressing on a simple salad with a few orange pieces and toasted almonds, with a side of Basmati rice. You can throw some of those almonds in the rice if you want to as well.

The flavors of the orange and the peach chicken together are out of this world. The salad is light and fresh, while the chicken is very very moist and flavorful!

Barbara's Peachy Chicken

Grease a caserole dish with butter or oil. Preheat oven to 375.

3 chicken breats
Flour, salt and Pepper -Shake in a ziploc bag- coat the chkn breasts
Brown the Chkn breats in a bit of oil and butter for a few minutes until light golden.
Place browned chicken in casserole dish

Mix 1 1/2 cups Orange Juice with 1 teaspoon of Basil, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, 2 Tablespoon's white vinegar, 2 Tablespoon's of brown sugar.

Pour over chicken.
Cover and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes - baste a few times to keep tops of chicken moist.
Open a can of peaches. Place peach halves in between chicken peices and cook 15 minutes longer uncovered.

Make it tonight, its a feast day August 15th, one of the largest feasts for us Catholics, celebrate well and dont forget to attend Mass!

On a lighter note

It's been 40 years...

Well, we are always pretty light over here in our blog kingdom. Today we'd like to post something a little heavy.

Vincent and I have been so greatful for what we have been given. We realize many people will never get to have the joys we have, and this is a hard reality to comprehend. We will never deserve what we have but rather feel its been given to us because we are the least deserving and without it we would be lost.

We never doubt the gift and santcity of life. We desire the best for each of you, we desire true happiness for you.

One of the greatest causes of human sorrow in this day, we believe is caused by a general widesweeping disrespect for life.

We are speaking about life at every level, from the unseen littlest human being brought about at the moment of conception, to the oldest moment and even the hardest moments that bring suffering.

We honestly believe that most people are so good. Sadly people have bought into a mentality about abortion without really deeply reflecting on its truth, or perhaps they havent been able to percieve the right questions to guide their thinking. In a society where true critical thinking is not encouraged this is most likley the case. There seems to be a fear to even have a healthy discussion about the issue. Wwe're open to challenge anyone to a truly chairtable and healthy discussion. When society has blinders on something that is so precious and innocent as life itself, well...what can I say.. I'm going to cry.

As one good friend put it, "I'm not sure about life and when it begins, but I'd rather err on the side of caution, wouldn't any one. " Well my friend, the fact that you put human life and your respect for it above your own knowledge shows me that you are truly a humble individual. God Bless you.

Science, good science has proven that after the moment of conception nothing is deleted or added to make that baby more baby or less baby then when it comes into your arms after that final push.

No one can dispute this fact.

Some buy into the parasite mentality that since it depends on the mother for life until about 6-7 monthes, it mustn't be alive, or worth living if it challenges my personal freedom. THIS IS THE CRUX right here.

This little baby will depend on the mother for life and nourishment when it is born too, diapering and nursing. It will probably depend on it's mother for rent checks until it's around 30. That will certainly hamper freedom.

The fact that humanity has the power to cooperate in the creative power of the divine is a gift, a priveledge. The fact that it is so fragile in the begining DOESN'T give us the right to push it over the edge of a cliff when it is holding on to a small rock at the top tryin to get enough strength to make it over the edge. We are NOT the authors of life. Nor are we the authors of death.

We are free. Free to make decisions and those decisons come with consequences. Consequences do not hamper freedom - They ensure it. Without consequences we would all be slaves, able to treat each other as we will. Wait a minute thats what is happening.

We dont want the consequence of the beauty of sexual intimacy and so we buy a condom or use birth control, thinking this is a way to exercise our freedom in resposible actions. But this pill or device makes us a slave to our passions and ties us up from ever freely giving our gift of self whole and complete to our mate. From this...the worst problem we have ever faced yet, a loss of true human intimacy.

Divorce rate among couples who dont contracept?

3 percent.

Whole, comeplete giving.

Jealous much?

Good sex? Holy sex?

Babe, it's in the Catholic Church. So come on over.

Its been 40 years since a wise man called Pope Paul VI warned that if we confuse our freedom we will in fact become slaves and from this would result the greatest abuse of women ever seen. He was right.

We know this blog may be a challenge and that this is read by complete strangers. Who are we? No one, but we CHALLENGE you to spend time really seeking the truth. Look, you've got one life to live. Make it a good one.

This blog was written at the request of a friend. See articles to follow.
Now we're back to our typical humorous diaper doo doo blogs that you really want to read about.

Pope Paul VI as Prophet

Have Humanae Vitae's Bold Predictions Come True?

by JANET SMITH

Twenty-five years ago Humanae Vitae "prophesied" that marriages and society would suffer if the use of contraception became widespread. Now the vast majority of spouses, as well as those who are unmarried, use some form of contraception.
To be sure, the encyclical was not written to be a prophetic document. Rather, it was written to be a clarifying document, intending to explain what the Church teaches about contraception. The encyclical does present this teaching clearly, but it has been little heeded during the last 25 years. Statistics show that few Catholics live by these teachings, and it seems safe to suppose that few Catholics have read Humanae Vitae.
Christians understand marriage as an elevated calling, whereby God enlists spouses in the all-important enterprise of bringing forth new human life. The Church teaches that to use contraception is to reject God and his life-giving blessings. The Church teaches not merely that contraception is wrong, but that because contraception is wrong, it will have bad consequences.
Four Prophecies
Pope Paul VI made four rather general "prophecies" about what would happen if the Church's teaching on contraception were ignored.
The Pope first noted that the widespread use of contraception would "lead to conjugal infidelity and the general lowering of morality." That there has been a widespread decline in morality, especially sexual morality, in the last 25 years, is very difficult to deny. The increase in the number of divorces, abortion, out-of-wedlock pregnancies, and venereal diseases should convince any skeptic that sexual morality is not the strong suit of our age.
1. Irresponsibility Rewarded
There is no question that contraception is behind much of this trouble. Contraception has made sexual activity a much more popular option that it was when the fear of pregnancy deterred a great number of young men and women from engaging in premarital sexual intercourse. The availability of contraception has led them to believe that they can engage in premarital sexual activity "responsibly." But teenagers are about as responsible in their use of contraception as they are in all other phases of their lives—such as making their beds, cleaning their rooms and getting their homework done on time.
2. Loss of Respect for Women
Paul VI also argued that "the man" will lose respect for "the woman" and "no longer (care) for her physical and psychological equilibrium" and will come to "the point of considering her as a mere instrument of selfish enjoyment and no longer as his respected and beloved companion." This concern reflects what has come to be known as a "personalist" understanding of morality. The personalist understanding of wrongdoing is based upon respect for the dignity of the human person. The Pope realized that the Church's teaching on contraception is designed to protect the good of conjugal love. When spouses violate this good, they do not act in accord with their innate dignity and thus they endanger their own happiness. Treating their bodies as mechanical instruments to be manipulated for their own purposes, they risk treating each other as objects of pleasure.
3. Abuse of Power
Paul VI also observed that the widespread acceptance of contraception would place a "dangerous weapon . . . in the hands of those public authorities who take no heed of moral exigencies." The history of the family-planning programs in the Third World is a sobering testimony to this reality. In Third World countries many people undergo sterilization unaware of what they are doing. The forced abortion program in China shows the stark extreme toward which governments will take population programs. Moreover, few people are willing to recognize the growing evidence that many parts of the world face not overpopulation, but underpopulation. It will take years to reverse the "anti-child" mentality now entrenched in many societies.
4. Misuse of the Body
Pope Paul's final warning was that contraception would lead man to think that he had unlimited dominion over his own body. Sterilization is now the most widely used form of contraception in the U.S.; individuals are so convinced of their rights to control their own bodies that they do not hesitate to alter even their own physical make-up.
The desire for unlimited dominion over one's own body extends beyond contraception. The production of "test-tube babies" is another indication of the refusal to accept the body's limitations; so too are euthanasia and the use of organs transplanted from those who are "nearly" dead. We seek to adjust the body to our desires and timetables, rather than adjusting ourselves to its needs.
Positive Prophecies
In Pope Paul made some positive predictions as well. He acknowledged that spouses might have difficulty in acquiring the self-discipline necessary to practice the methods of family planning that require periodic abstinence. But he taught that self-discipline was possible, especially with the help of sacramental grace. In Section 21, he remarked:
[T]he discipline which is proper to the purity of married couples, far from harming conjugal love, rather confers on it a higher human value. It demands continual effort yet, thanks to its beneficent influence, husband and wife fully develop their personalities, being enriched with spiritual values. Such discipline bestows upon family life fruits of serenity and peace; and facilitates the solution of other problems; it favors attention for one's partner, helps both parties to drive out selfishness, the enemy of true love; and deepens their sense of responsibility.
While this passage is rarely studied, Pope John Paul II is one commentator who recognizes the depth of its wisdom. It plays the central role in his reflections on ; he focuses on the importance of "self-mastery" for the proper use of sexuality, and explains the meaning of the human body and the human person as these bear upon sexuality.
John Paul II has spoken of the Church's teaching on contraception as a part of the "permanent patrimony" of the Faith. Twenty-five years of neglecting Humanae Vitae have produced enough unpleasant consequences to help us recognize how foolish and dangerous it is to squander that patrimony.

Eventful Adventures

Yes, we are back. Yes, we were gone. You mean you didnt notice?

10 days of fun, heat and hilarious mishaps on the way to Vincent's parents farm.

How could it be any other way with 3 kids under the age of 4.5 travelling with two middle aged half crazed adults?

Travels took us through Tahoe and then the great city of Reno, otherwise known as cigarette-ville (sorry to all you Reno dwellers) it’s a very pretty city Minus the casino's and hair spray.

In Tahoe, James made sure to spray sunscreen into his eye- a near hospital visit.

In Winnemucca, Nevada, after some tensions Eileen made sure to one up the kids and get her finger slammed hard by loving Vincent in the door lock, a glorious bruise and near nail loss resulted. Poor Vincent was devastated. Eileen was screaming and Joseph had some tears witnessing the whole play unfold.

We stayed the night in Winnemucca at the smokiest little casino dive. We wanted to get a 5 o’clock a.m. start but Vincent misjudged the time and packed us all up into the car at 2 a.m., only to realize after the fact that it was indeed 2 a.m. and not 5 a.m. Both of us managed to laugh it off, thinking at least our kids would sleep the long 7 hr drive to Grandma and Grandpa's. We didn’t laugh after being proved wrong on that count. Kids once woken, well, lets just say, they are not nice.

We arrived at our destination on a glorious Oregon afternoon on the farm, had an hour to ourselves before others arrived, Grandma and Grandpa first. It was great to see that Joseph remembered the farm from his last visit, but he whined a lot, asking where the snow was (his last farm visit was a year and a half ago at Christmas)

We had great adventures with family including a sky tram that scared that pants off Joseph. Nibbling chipmunks on the top of a craggy cliff were included in the ticket fee apparently.

We had Bocce ball evenings and time to watch squirrels being blown apart with 22's. Nothing like the great outdoors.

Seriously, the sound of nothing but a few wheel lines irrigating the neighboring field are enough to bring you to heaven and back, does wonders for a prayerful and reflective spirit.

We were able to have water balloon flights and very much enjoy our siblings and nieces and nephews, always a treat. A large family brings nothing but blessings and variety at every turn.

Our last day was spent enjoying the Lake with its beautiful snow capped mountains behind it. Marvelous.

Leaving Friday we made it to Boise for an overnight. Definitely becoming our favorite city to spend some R & R in. Brings whole new meaning to a big city with a small town feel.
Vincent had a wonderful meeting there; some possibilities are arising for the fall.

Had a great time visiting Angie and Don and the little boys, they are truly Q T PIES, check out their new blog.

Leaving Boise was sad for us, just wanted to stay one more day, that’s always the best way to leave a place. 1/2 hr out of Boise is the wine country, full of orchards, LOVE IT!
Drove a full day -8 hrs to Reno and stayed the night at the fabulous Peppermill, whew amazing hotel!!!

The day was so long though, I don’t know how to describe the vast lands we passed, nothing but hills and sagebrush. A few towns dotted the way with nothing but a gas station, if that,
this is definitely no mans land. Ok, its some mans land and his name is big Bill and his belt buckle is huge, he has bowed legs from riding horse and no doubt be knows hot to read his cards.
After a beautiful Mass Saturday at St. Therese's parish in Reno, we swam in one of the 3 pools in the hotel, wow, very very nice pool. The next morning we rode off into the sunset... No no
we didn’t, we drove to Sacramento where we took a 2 hour break. Train museum and old town Sac, a really great kid option! Then off the rest of the way home.

Our adventures will cease…at least for now. Check back later for updates.
